They kicked it up a notch, and ushered in an era known as "modern jazz" - which some dubbed "bebop."

Amazingly, Parker was only widely known for about a decade before he died in 1955 at the age of 34. He accomplished great fame while living a self-destructive lifestyle, which included frequent use of controlled substances and consumption of hard liquor. But despite living on the edge, his genius shined through.
Wed, 05 Sep 2012 21:56:00 +0000 Bob Perkins 2485 at http://wrti.org Bob Perkins Recommends...Charlie Parker with Strings: The Master Takes Bob Perkins Recommends: Joe Pass & J.J. The two artists would be on their own--no other musicians--just the two of them, performing a number of time-honored classics.

Well, there was such an occurrence in June of 1975, at the Fantasy Recording Studios in Berkeley, California, when and where Tony Bennett and Bill Evans were recorded. He's been playing a heap of trumpet since arriving on New York City's jazz scene some 25 years ago. Sometimes in the often-wacky world of music, and especially in jazz, even the near-great ones escape detection for quite a spell. But on the wings of My Old Flame, his latest CD, Joe's name and fame may take flight - and perhaps soon we'll all know Joe.
Sun, 08 Apr 2012 16:21:01 +0000 Bob Perkins 3737 at http://wrti.org Bob Perkins Recommends...My Old Flame: Joe Magnarelli & Strings Sweet Jazz Notes from WRTI's Jazz Hosts http://wrti.org/post/sweet-jazz-notes-wrtis-jazz-hosts
Loose or tight.
