Tune in on Sunday, April 21st at 5 pm on our HD-2 channel when the popular Brazilian vocal duo MINAS stops by the station. Orlando Haddad and Patricia King will fill you in about their current project to complete a fabulous CD that they started work on in 2004 when they had teamed up with arranger and orchestrator, Bill Zaccagni to present “Symphony in Bossa,” a music program enhanced by Bill’s arrangements written specifically for MINAS - featuring original compositions and traditional Brazilian repertoire. "Symphony in Bossa" was halted due to Bill's sudden, tragic passing.

We're honoring ladies of jazz this month on WRTI. Take a moment to listen to jazz vocalist Julie London sing "Cry Me A River." In case you didn't know, Julie was named Billboard's most popular female vocalist in 1955, 1956, and 1957, and was on the cover of LIFE magazine in 1957. This video is from 1964.

Author Marc Myers' 'Why Jazz Happened' on Voices In Jazz

Join us on Sunday, February 24, 5 to 6 pm as host Bob Craig welcomes Marc Myers, author of a newly published book, Why Jazz Happened - a comprehensive insight, from an outsiders view, of how jazz flourished between 1942 and 1972.

You'll also hear vocal recordings to illustrate the book's theme.

A special treat this week on Voices in Jazz! The amazingly talented pianist/singer Dena DeRose shares her story about how carpal tunnel syndrome nearly sidelined her piano career, and led to a focus on singing. Today, happily, she's proficient at both and traveling the world as a much in-demand artist. You'll also hear selections from her first solo release - Travelin' Light, featuring standards from the Great American Songbook recorded live in Antwerp.

Both Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan recorded Gershwin songbook albums in the late 1950s. The first hour of Voices in Jazz this week will feature recordings from both of these famous jazz singers.

Each will sing stunning versions of "Embraceable You" - and even Louis Armstrong gets to squeeze in a couple of duets with Ella. Also, a rebroadcast of an interview with Carolyn Nelson, a Philadelphia-area singer performing songs from her Come A Little Closer CD. Sunday, September 23rd, 3 to 6 pm on the all-jazz stream and WRTI HD-2.

We'll remember singer Jeri Southern on the anniversary of her 86th birthday on Sunday, August 5th on Voices in Jazz, 3 to 6 pm on HD-2 and the jazz stream. It'll be a special hour with her songs and special guest Dick LaPalm, her one-time manager back in the 1950s. He'll share stories and remembrances of this much-admired lady of music in the 5 pm hour.
