Bebe Neuwirth's First and Other Loves

Bebe Neuwirth is probably best known for her portrayal of Lilith Sternin-Crane in the TV sitcom Cheers, and more recently for co-starring in CBS TV series Madam Secretary. Yet, as WRTI’s Jim Cotter reports, her roots are not in television or film, but on the Broadway stage.

The two-time Tony-Award winning performer studied dance at Juilliard, and danced with the Princeton Ballet in her hometown before beginning her highly successful career on Broadway.  In contrast to her persona as Lilith  the icy, high-strung psychiatrist, BebeNeuwirth’s other life as an all-singing, all-dancing performer often comes as a surprise to those not familiar with her first love  .

Yet even during her time as a primetime TV star she stayed active on the stage.

Though the first series of Madam Secretary has just ended, it was the Fall’s No. 1 scripted show on Sundays. Expect more from BebeNeuwirth as Nadine Toliver in Madam Secretary in 2015.
