Join WRTI 90.1 as we recognize Black History Month by celebrating jazz artists and songs that were synonymous with the Civil Rights Movement. During regular jazz hours, we'll bring you this music and discuss its political connections.
Some of the celebrated artists will include:
Nina Simone, Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane and Charles Mingus.
We'll also play different versions of traditional spirituals:
"We Shall Overcome"
"Wade In the Water"
"This Little Light of Mine"
"Life Ev’ry Voice and Sing"
