Violist Martha Mooke has electrified audiences with her innovative performances and compositions that transcend musical genres.Listen to her perform a variety of works for electric viola live on WRTI 90.1, with host Susan Lewis.

Classically trained, MarthaMookehas pioneered the use of the electric five-string viola and violin, creating an enhanced soundscape using extended techniques, digital effects, and improvisation.

She's worked with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including Orchestra of St. Luke's, Steve Reich, David Bowie. and Barbara Streisand. She's Founder and Artistic Director of the Scorchio Quartet, which performs each year at the annual Tibet House Benefit Concerts at Carnegie Hall, produced by Philip Glass.

She's written solo, chamber, symphonic band, and orchestral works, as well as multimedia, film, theater and ballet scores. She also presents educational clinics and has been acclaimed for "helping extend the boundaries in string music and education."

Mooke says of her new work, "Stylistically, Invisible Hands fuses the musical worlds of Classical, Improvisation, Electronics, Jazz, and Rock, thus expanding on Gunther Schuller's "Third Stream" intersection of classical music and jazz.

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia performs the world premiere of Invisible Hands for electric viola and orchestra, with Martha Mooke as soloist on Sunday and Monday, April 1st and 2nd at the Kimmel Center.
