The Philadelphia Orchestra on WRTI: Pianist Emanuel Ax and Organist Paul Jacobs in the Spotlight!

Lisa Marie Mazzucco
Pianist Emanuel Ax

In the wake of pianist Emanuel Ax’s performances with Yannick Nézet-Séguin with The Philadelphia Orchestra this past weekend, join us on Sunday, December 9th at 1 PM for a rebroadcast of the season-opening performance of the Orchestra’s 2017-18 season, from October of last year.

In that concert, Manny Ax and the Philadelphians teamed up for Mozart’s 27th Piano Concerto, the east coast premiere of an organ work by the Texan, Wayne Oquin, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

Wayne Oquin's work for organ and orchestra, Resilience, written for Philadelphia audience favorite, organist Paul Jacobs, marked the beginning of the multi-season Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ Experience, and it was a highlight of the season, as was Yannick’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony—which the Orchestra would subsequently take on tour to Europe and Asia.

During intermission, WRTI's Debra Lew Harder spoke backstage with Emanuel Ax, and Susan Lewis chatted with Maestro Nézet-Séguin.

That’s this Sunday, December 9th, from 1 to 3 PM!  The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert on WRTI 90.1, the WRTI Mobile App, and streaming at wrti.org. Listen again on Monday, December 10th at 7 PM on WRTI HD-2.
