Wanamker Organ Hour: Virtuoso Isabelle Demers

Acis Records
Isabelle Demers, organist

This month Peter Richard Conte and Jill Pasternak welcome virtuoso organist Isabelle Demers, Organ Professor and Head of the Organ Program at Baylor University in Texas, where she teaches organ and courses in the organ curriculum. Ms. Demers recently performed on the Wanamaker Organ and it's music from that concert we'll hear this week.

A native of Québec, she is rapidly becoming recognized as one of North America’s most virtuosic organists. Her concert at the 2010 national convention of the American Guild of Organists, in Washington, D.C., was received with great acclaim not only by critics, who deemed it “one of the most outstanding events of the convention.” (The American Organist), but also by the standing-room-only audience, which called her back five times. A review of her concert for the joint International Society of Organ Builders and American Institute of Organ Builders (ISO/AIO) convention in 2010 said that “she enchanted the entire audience with her virtuoso performance,” leaving the entire congress in an atmosphere of “Demers fever.”

The Wanamaker Organ Hour is presented by Macy's Center City, the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ and WRTI and celebrates its ninth season on-air.

Listen for Isabelle Demers on the Wanamaker Organ Hour, with Macy's Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte and WRTI's Jill Pasternak, Sunday afternoon at 5 on WRTI, and the All-Classical web stream at wrti.org.
