Watch and Listen: Pianist Xun Pan and Violinist Simon Maurer Play Beethoven Live on WRTI

Hear selections from two Beethoven sonatas recorded live from the WRTI 90.1 Performance Studio. Host Kevin Gordon welcomed pianist Xun Pan and violinist Simon Maurer on September 18th.

Pianist Xun Pan and violinist Simon Maurer play together frequently. Along with clarinetist Doris Hall Gulati, they are members of Trio Clavino, which has recorded several albums, performed live on radio and television, and toured Europe and China extensively.

PROGRAM:
Sonata in F Major, Opus 24, movement 3 - Nicknamed the "Spring" Sonata; Sonata in G, Opus 30, No. 3

A founding member and Artistic Director of the Lancaster International Piano Festival, Chinese-American pianist Xun Pan is the Director of Keyboard Studios and Pre-College Music Division of the Tell School of Music at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. 

He is also a visiting professor of many universities and conservatories in China. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, beginning this fall, Dr. Pan will perform the composer's 32 piano sonatas, 10 piano/violin sonatas, and 8 piano/cello work.

Violinist Simon Maurer is the founder and artistic director of Sunday Sinfonia, a string orchestra of amateur string players based in Lancaster. He is also the artistic director of the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble, which is committed to bringing classical music to underserved areas.   Mr. Maurer also performs jazz and free style improvisation, and has been a featured soloist in Philadelphia area jazz clubs.

A veteran broadcaster, Kevin garnered a wealth of experience in radio before taking the weekday classical host position from 2 to 6 PM at WRTI, where he was on the air until his retirement in March 2023.
