This week we'll slide into the trombone section on Big Band Jazz. You'll hear from Tommy Dorsey, the man whose band set new ideas in motion for the instrument, a beauty from Stan Kenton using just trombones and piano, and a few new big bands with trombone high notes. That's this Sunday, August 8th, 7 to 8 pm.
Academy of Vocal Arts alums, and husband and wife in real life, Ailyn Perez and Stephen Costello star as Mimi and Rodolfo in Puccini's tragic, ultra-romantic opera about struggling young artists and the risks of living life on the edge in Paris around 1830.
Bramwell Tovey conducts the New York Philharmonic in an all-Tchaikovsky program - perfect summertime listening! They're joined by pianist Simon Trpčeski in a performance of the infrequently heard Piano Concerto No. 2. Selections from Act IV of Swan Lake, and the ever-popular 1812 Overture round out the program. Sunday, August 5th, 3 to 5 pm.
