Event Description

The February concert in our Emerging Artists Series features exciting young Danish cellist Jonathan Swensen performing folk-style music by Schumann, Ravel’s Habanera and Kaddish, and Rachmaninoff’s cello sonata with pianist Marianna Shirinyan. Watch this virtual concert anytime from February 10 through 24 on a pay-what-you-wish basis.

Winner of First Prizes at the 2018 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, 2018 Khachaturian International Cello Competition, and 2019 Windsor International String Competition, Jonathan Swensen “makes the cello sing” (Alle Nyheder).

Marianna Shirinyan is a noted soloist and chamber musician, professor, and music festival director who has received the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s prestigious P2 award for her contributions to Danish music life. Her playing has been described as “captivating” (Berlingske) and “lyrical” (MusicWeb International).
