Opera Philadelphia Channel - Save the Boys

Now streaming on-demand on the Opera Philadelphia Channel.

Countertenor John Holiday (recently seen on NBC's The Voice) and pianist Grant Loehnig bring the timely words of abolitionist and suffragist Frances Ellen Watkins Harper to life in the first work of our Digital Commissions Series.

Harper's poem "Save the Boys" inspired the virtuosic composer Tyshawn Sorey to write this world premiere as a response to the ongoing violence against Black men and women across the United States. Sorey says, "It reflects our daily life experiences as Black Americans and the day-to-day precarity in which we continue to live."
