Curtis Institute of Music – Graduation Recital: Youjin Lee, violin
Facebook Livestream: May 11, 12:00p.m. ET
Youjin Lee opens her graduation recital with Paul Hindemith’s restless Sonata in E-flat major. Hindemith began composing this work while serving in the German army on the Western Front. He wrote in his wartime diary that “Music reached out beyond political boundaries, national hatred and the horrors of war.” The first half of the recital closes with Eugène Ysaÿe’s enthralling and passionate Sonata in D minor. The second half of the concert features Johannes Brahms’s final violin sonata, the stormy Sonata No. 3 in D minor. Twentieth-century virtuoso Fritz Kreisler’s Viennese Rhapsodic Fantasietta provides a warm and lush finale.
