Wait, what... it’s summer already?! We’re doing a “Double Take Memorial Day Weekend” at WRTI with the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day Weekend. Hear “double takes” of your favorite classical composers and jazz standards. And of course, we’ll play classical and jazz favorites all weekend long as we honor the meaning of Memorial Day.
Beginning Friday, May 26th at noon, listen at the top of every hour for two in a row by your favorite classical composers. Double takes keep rolling Saturday morning and all day Monday, along with a heaping of beloved American music and bright, new selections especially picked to make this weekend the best ever! And don’t miss The Film Score: Music for Memorial Day Sunday at 3 pm. (There’s even a Now Is the Time double take Saturday at 9 pm on HD2—all music for two pianos!)
Everybody has one or two favorite jazz standards: vocals, instrumentals, or even big band arrangements. So, starting 6 pm Friday, WRTI explores these great renditions—two at a time! At the top and bottom of every hour we’ll play two different versions of a well-known standard.
You’ll hear all of your favorites, like “Misty,” “Take Five,” “Stardust”—in two different ways—all weekend long. Miles Davis is in the mix as well, as Friday the 26th is his birthday!
Also, the fantastic Airmen of Note join us in honor of Memorial Day, featuring some very special guests. How special? How about Terell Stafford on Friday, Cyrus Chestnut on Saturday, Terell again at noon on Sunday and at 9 pm, Steve Turre!
That, friends, is some serious jazz and classical music lining up for you, and that’s the Double Take Memorial Day Weekend on WRTI. Fire up the grill, relax, remember, and keep WRTI close all Memorial Day Weekend long!
