Big Band Jazz and The Jones Boys, Sunday Night

This Sunday evening at 7 pm, Big Band Jazz presents The Jones Boys. That's Jones as in Quincy, Thad, Hank, and Elvin.

All-everything composer, arranger, and winner of just about every award Quincy Jones led bands in the '50s and '60s. Although some know him mainly as a record producer of stars new and not so new, it's always good to hear a taste of his jazz band chops.

Trumpeter Thad will be heard with Count Basie as well as in the popular and Grammy-winning Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band, which held court for so many years at New York's Village Vanguard.

Drummer Elvin Jones was as tasty as they come, often accompanying brothers Thad and Hank, and he set sparks flying wherever he played. Finally, we'll feature the ever-elegant pianist Hank Jones in performance with the Winds Jazz Orchestra from Japan's Osaka College of Music.
