Cookin' Up Some Delicious Jazz Songs

Nat King Cole

Goblins and Ghosts. Mermaids and Princesses. Trick-or-treat comes next week and WRTI is getting ready to pass out tasty jazz nuggets. Here are some sweet indulgences – on the musical side.

There's the Nat "King" Cole Trio performing “The Frim-Fram Sauce”- a 1945 jazz song known for its silly lyrics about a thirsty restaurant customer who drinks the water only to reject real food –tomatoes, pork chops– in favor of made-up stuff like “frim-fram” sauce,  “ussin-fay,” with “shafafa” on the side.  You know, “shafafa.”

The Frim-Fram Sauce" inspired all kinds of performers, including Canadian jazz musician Diana Krall, who later made a suggestive move to fruit.

Thousands of jazz greats have been inspired by good things to eat. So hold the candy this Halloween and enjoy a stash of melodic treats.
