PROGRAM:

Debussy: Aquarelles from Ariettes Oubliées; L. Boulanger: Les lilas qui avaient fleuri from Clairières dans le ciel;  Janacek: First three songs of Diary of one who disappeared; N. Boulanger: Cantique; Blitzstein: Stay in my Arms; Copland: At the River

Praised by The Boston Globe as "one of the world's most remarkable singers," tenor Nicholas Phan is curating and performing in this Philadelphia Chamber Music Society series.

Emerging Voicesis a series of six concerts and panel discussions taking place January 13th to 24th, 2020 at the Kimmel Center and other Center City venues. The project features 13 artists and ensembles, four world premieres, special projection design, and more.

Emerging Voices was born out of Nick's pressing desire to understand his own history, to depict our collective identities as Americans, and to deepen our capacity to empathize with the experiences of others. The project brings to life the work and stories of composers and poets, revealing new and often unexpected perspectives on who we are as human beings. As Nick says, 'The reason art song endures is because the themes that it's grappling with are themes that we still confront today. The mystery of life doesn't really change."

Susan writes and produces stories about music and the arts. She’s host and producer of WRTI’s TIME IN online interview series, and contributes weekly intermission interviews for The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert series. She’s also been a regular host of WRTI’s Live from the Performance Studio sessions.
