Watch and Listen: Pianist James Anemone Plays Brahms, MacDowell, and Gershwin, Live from WRTI 90.1

Pianist James Anemone

Admired for his sensitive playing and thoughtful interpretations, Philadelphia-based pianist James Anemone joins us on Wednesday, May 1 at 12:10 PM to perform music of Johannes Brahms, Edward MacDowell and George Gershwin live from the WRTI Performance Studio. Kevin Gordon is host.

James has performed across the United States at venues including Carnegie Hall, The Academy of Music Ballroom  and Roussel Hall in New Orleans.

In the 2018-2019 season, James performed in Cohen Family Studio Theatre at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He won first prize at Crescendo International Music Competition, where he performed at Carnegie Hall, in New York. He created the Anemone Piano Studio Spring Festival, where his students will be performing at Jacobs Music in Masterclasses taught by Dr. Timothy Blair and Dr. Vincent Craig and a solo recital.

During the 2017-2018 season, James was awarded The Jacobs Music Company Steinway Award, in recognition of Outstanding Pianistic Ability, Musicianship, and Artistic and Academic Scholarship at West Chester University School of Music. He won first prize at the Triumph Music Festival and first prize at the Pennsylvania MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

James teaches piano in Exton, PA. His students have performed in recitals and masterclasses at Ware Recital Hall at West Chester University, Taylors Music, Jacobs Music, and Rock Hall at Temple University.

A veteran broadcaster, Kevin garnered a wealth of experience in radio before taking the weekday classical host position from 2 to 6 PM at WRTI, where he was on the air until his retirement in March 2023.
