WRTI's NPR Live Sessions Video of the Week: Trombonist Ernest Stuart

Jauhien Sasnou
Trombonist Ernest Stuart

February 3, 2020. Long steeped in the tradition of Philadelphia soul sensibilities, trombonist Ernest Stuart is a versatile player who seemlessly flows in any music style, be it jazz, R&B, hip-hop or rock.

Watch video here: Ernest Stuart and his band in action!

Ernest earned his B.A. in Jazz Performance at Temple University and then moved to New York City, where he honed his horn style performing with legendary musicians and bands such as the Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The Roots, the house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, as well as Aretha Franklin, Seal, John Legend, among others.

After the release of his 2011 debut CD Solitary Walker, the gifted musician followed up in 2012 by founding the Center City Jazz Festival in Philadelphia, an annual "must-attend" event that showcases some of the nation's top-notch artists.

"Ernest Stuart and his band delivered a memorable set of music in the WRTI Performance Studio during the late summer of 2019," noted WRTI Jazz Host and Live Sessions Executive Producer J. Michael Harrison. He has established a strong rapport with many of the talented musicians in the Philadelphia area and beyond. He and his gifted ensemble provided a powerful performance not to be missed. We're excited to feature Ernest and his band as this week's Video of the Week."
