September 24, 2018. Jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Brad Mehldau is a known innovator. His ability to think outside-of-the-box while remaining true to jazz makes every release of his a pleasant surprise. Seymour Reads the Constitution! is no different.

September 17, 2018. Despite the passing of Count Basie in 1984, the Count Basie Orchestra has remained one of the elite performing organizations in jazz. Now under the direction of Scotty Barnhart, the orchestra, partly comprised of musicians hired by Basie himself, has released All About That Basie to celebrate 80 years of swinging.

August 6, 2018. Over the years, saxophonist Rob Dixon has proven he can bring the funk. On Coast To Crossroads, the funk is still brought, and so is the rest of his musical capability.

July 23, 2018.  It’s been five years since we’ve had new music from saxophonist and York, Pennsylvania native Tim Warfield.  His new album, Jazzland, uses the same configuration of his 2013 release One for Shirley. Terell Stafford is on trumpet, Pat Bianchi on the Hammond B3 organ, Byron Landham is the drummer, and Daniel Sadownick handles percussion.

July 16, 2018. Lynne Arriale has a special relationship with the piano.  It’s apparent as soon as you hear a few bars of her playing on Give Us These Days. Double bassist Jasper Somsen and drummer Jasper van Hulton add the magic that makes this album distinct.

June 25, 2018. French-born vocalist Cyrille Aimée’s new album Live is a testament to why she’s made such a big splash in the American jazz scene. Cyrille Amiée Live marks the bandleader's last time performing with her longtime band, and there was something special in the air that night. 

May 6, 2018.  Releasing an album that contains six original compositions, a couple of standards, a Lennon/McCartney interpretation, and a trip to church is quite a feat. At the age of 14 it might seem impossible…but not for piano phenom Joey Alexander. Eclipse is his fourth album, and it does not disappoint.

WRTI weekend host Jeff Duperon’s love for music started at birth. Being a New Orleans native, it came with the territory. Jeff was raised with all types of jazz, zydeco, R&B, and everything in between on the radio at all times.

March 26, 2018. With an extensive resume spanning from Hollywood to Broadway and covering the depths of jazz, it’s no wonder trumpeter Louise Baranger could lead a band that nails tunes from the ‘60s and ‘70s. She does just that on the album Louise Baranger Plays The Great American Groove Book.

March 12, 2018. At age 75, Dr. Lonnie Smith still knows how to party. His new release, All In My Mind, was recorded last summer at his birthday celebration at The Jazz Standard in New York City. Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg and drummer Johnathan Blake make this a trio record to remember.
