Branford Marsalis

Pianist Victor Gould took a shine to the piano at age four and has been sparkling on the keyboards ever since. Born in Los Angeles, Victor's piano virtuosity has made waves in New York’s renowned jazz scene and beyond.

Ellis Marsalis, jazz pianist, educator, and patriarch of the Marsalis family, has died at the age of 85. His death was announced in tweets from New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Jazz at Lincoln Center, where his son Wynton is managing and artistic director.

April 1, 2019. Familiarity is said to breed unpleasant things, but the new album from the Branford Marsalis quartet, suggests the opposite. Pianist Joey Calderazzo and bassist Eric Revis have each been with Branford for the past twenty years. They call drummer Justin Faulkner “The Rookie;” he’s approaching a decade with the group.

Branford Marsalis' Classical Side

Oct 13, 2014

Nobody is surprised when jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis explores the classical side of his personality. Though on his current tour with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, he's on new ground playing music by contemporaries of J.S. Bach written a century before the saxophone was even invented. The Philadelphia Inquirer's David Patrick Stearns found out how that actually worked.

WRTI is thrilled to partner, once again, with Longwood Gardens for this year's Wine and Jazz Festival. The date is Saturday, June 1st from 12 noon to 5:30 pm. The Branford Marsalis Quartet will headline this year's festival as part of a superb lineup that will make for a full afternoon of first-class music.  Other performers include the Anat Cohen Quartet, the Alfredo Rodriguez Trio, and jazz vocalist Joanna Pascale.
