Ernest Stuart has performed with an impressive list of artist including The Roots, Orrin Evans, Billy Paul, Aretha Franklin, Terell Stafford, Seal and John Legend.  Ernest and his band join J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on Tuesday, August 13th at 2 pm, prior to performing at the Kimmel Center's free monthly series, Sittin' In, the following evening.

When trombonist and Philly native Ernest Stuart created the Center City Jazz Festival back in 2012, he did so out of what he felt was necessity. “The scene was shrinking,” says Stuart, a 2008 graduate of Temple's renowned Jazz Studies program.

August 6, 2018. Over the years, saxophonist Rob Dixon has proven he can bring the funk. On Coast To Crossroads, the funk is still brought, and so is the rest of his musical capability.

The third annual Center City Jazz Festival is coming up on Saturday, April 19th  There are 16 bands performing in a six-hour period, in four venues in downtown Philadelphia. WRTI’s Susan Lewis has more.

It's Official! The City Of Philadelphia Appreciates Jazz

All across the country, April is Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). In Philadelphia, JAM's month-long series of concerts, workshops, and events - including the Center City Jazz Festival - culminates on April 30th, which is Jazz Appreciation Day.

From the first downbeat of the first Center City Jazz Festival in Philadelphia, you could hear history in the air — and maybe history being made.

The Wade Dean Enspiration, a gutsy young quintet, led off the festival with "Gingerbread Boy" by Jimmy Heath, one of Philly's many homegrown jazz legends. It was 1 p.m. last Saturday, and the dim carpeted room upstairs at Fergie's Pub was starting to fill up.
