Hailed by All About Jazz as “The Face (and shape) of Jazz to Come," Connie Han is a Los Angeles-based, 23-year-old rising star in the jazz world. She joins Jazz Host J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on March 15th at 4 PM ahead of her trio performance on March 16th at the piano jazz salon @exuberance in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

The delightful ladies of DivaNation Philly have been singing together for over five years throughout the Philadelphia region. Several members of the collective recently joined Jazz Host J. Michael Harrison live in the WRTI 90.1 Performance Studio to present a preview of "Vibing for Spring"—their upcoming March 9th performance at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts.

Pianist, composer and WRTI alum Kendrah Butler-Waters and pianist and composer Tonya Dorsey are presenting a Black History Month concert at St. Martin De Porres Church on February 16th.  On Wednesday, February 6th they joined host J. Michael Harrison, along with some of their collective, in the WRTI Performance Studio.

The group Ode to Omni was formed in Philadelphia by drummer (and leader) Marcus Myers with the mission of making music that benefits the listener while trying to push music forward. They joined host J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on February 4th for a live session that you can watch on Facebook.

The Sittin’ In series at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts has been introducing audiences to cutting-edge artists for 7 years. Anthony Tidd, the curator of the series, joined host J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on January 29th for a session with some of the biggest names Sittin’ In has presented in advance of the Live Birthday Bash Jam on Feb. 6th at the Kimmel Center.

Community Education Center (CEC)

Drummer Webb Thomas’ Philadelphia roots extend deep and have helped establish him as one of the most prominent drummers in the area. Webb and his project, Webb T’s Fleet The Superband, will join host J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on Thursday, December 13th at 9:10 PM for a live concert. Husband and wife duo MINAS began at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, when pianist Patricia King asked Brazilian born Orlando Haddad to write lyrics for one of her compositions. Seven albums and several Grammy nominations later, Minas Has become synonymous with bossa nova in America.

Vibraphonist and educator Tony Miceli is a Philadelphia legend in his own right. His performance and teaching career has brought him around the world. Tony and his ensemble will be paying tribute to another Philly legend, the late, great Grover Washington Jr. 

Hailing from South Africa, pianist Paul Hanmer and saxophonist McCoy Mrubata have performed, recorded and composed together for 30 years. Both alums of Hugh Masekela’s band, each artist has been influenced by both South African music and American jazz, which you can see in this live performance from the WRTI 90.1 Performance Studio hosted by J. Born in England to Jamaican parents, vocalist and songwriter Julie Dexter is no stranger to the stage on both sides of the pond. Classically trained with an upbringing spiked with jazz and major island influences, Julie’s compositions stand out like none other.
