WRTI to Broadcast AVA Giargiari Bel Canto Operatic Competition on October 5
Vote In Our Online Poll for The AVA Competition's Star Singer
Let your voice be heard! Choose your favorite operatic singer from the Academy of Vocal Arts' popular Giargiari Bel Canto operatic competition when it airs on WRTI on Sunday, October 5, from 3 to 5 pm.
The actual competition will take place at the Kimmel Center on Oct. 2. The event is sold out, but you can still hear it and participate in selecting the WRTI listener favorite on Oct. 5.
Voting is easy - just go to the WRTI website during the broadcast and fill out a simple form that will list the names of contestants. We'll announce the winners from the online vote, and from the contest at the Kimmel Center, at the end of the broadcast. An expert panel of judges from the world of opera will choose the winners from the AVA Giargiari Bel Canto Competition at the Thursday night concert. Past judges have included opera legends Rose Bampton, Frank Guarerra, and Enrico Di Giuseppe; Opera News critic Robert Baxter; and author and arts consultant Thor Eckert - familiar to opera audiences through the intermission features of the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts.
The competition is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Irvin M. Gerson. Danielle Orlando is the AVA's music director and competition accompanist.
