Join us from 3 to 6 pm for a rarely heard Verdi opera: Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio.Verdi's first opera is a classic love triangle set in 13th-century Italy, where family rivalries and blood feuds inspired Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Cast includes Michelle Johnson, Margaret Mezzacappa, Viktor Antipenko, and Scott Conner. You can listen on WRTI and experience the opera live on Jan. 31st at the Haverford School. Oberto, Count of San Boniface, has been defeated in battle by Ezzelino da Romana. Riccardo, the Count of Salinquerra and a da Romana ally, has seduced and abandoned Oberto's daughter Leonora, and is about to marry Cuniza, Ezzelino's sister. Oberto and Leonora attempt to disrupt the wedding, with tragic results. Sung in Italian.
