Jacobs Music Company and the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School will present, “Tango Dueling Pianos,” a concert that features two of the great tango pianists of our time, Emiliano Messiez and Pablo Estigarribia, on Saturday, September 10 at 4 pm. The concert takes place in the beautiful concert hall at Jacobs Music Company’s 1718 Chestnut St. location in Center City, Philadelphia.

“Tango Dueling Pianos” brings a format which is well-established in the realm of jazz—two virtuoso pianists using both improvisational mastery and showmanship to compete with each other on stage—to the realm of Argentine tango. It has been performed three times previously to great acclaim, including twice at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (in October 2018 and October 2019). This will be the first reemergence of the show since the pandemic shutdown. It is also the first time that the pianists will “duel” on instruments of the highest quality, Steinway grand pianos.

After the 4 pm concert at Jacobs Music Company, the event continues at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (2030 Frankford Ave in Fishtown) with an 8:30 pm all-levels tango class, taught by two of the most recognized tango dancers of our time, Carla Marano and Ines Muzzopappa from Buenos Aires. After the class, a tango social dance with popular guest DJ Craig Herrington from Cleveland, continues until 2 am. And who knows? There may be some live music surprises along the way.
