Come Sunday
Charlie Haden & Hank Jones

Early in 2010, bassist Charlie Haden and pianist Hank Jones got together to record a follow-up to their 1995 (smash hit) album of spirituals and traditional music, Steal Away. They made the decision that a small handful of traditional carols, with a message of peace, would make it onto the album. The result is Come Sunday. It was recorded in February 2010, shortly before Jones' passing.

These masters were able to put the "spirit" in spiritual, with Haden's haunting bass lines and Jones' versatility. The beautiful result of this meeting of two great minds is a record of recognizable pieces presented in a way you've never heard them. ?

"Going Home" and, the title track, "Come Sunday" have been played millions of times, but this recording is so gorgeous and simple, it almost makes it hip.

Although there are some holiday compositions on here, Come Sunday will not be released to retailers until January 11th, but the fresh interpretations of all of these traditionals are prefect for any time of year. If, throughout the holiday season, you wished for something different to mix in with your annual collection, this is the album for you.--Maureen
