Description

Reporting to the Director of Content, the incumbent is responsible for leading WRTI’s classical music programming service across multiple platforms including programming all weekday music, directing new program and segment development, serving as the primary classical community relationship manager, ensuring WRTI’s classical music DEI agenda is implemented and goals achieved, reviewing new classical releases for addition to music library, producing digital content as necessary to support service goals, creating and managing content partnerships with the classical community, and participating in industry projects and partnerships as necessary to further station and industry goals that increase classical music public service power and impact.

 

Essential Functions

  • In consultation with Director of Content leads WRTI’s classical music programming service across multiple platforms and various levels, including stewarding WRTI’s classical music DEI agenda and goals throughout this work

  • Directs the development of new classical music programs, programming, and partnerships including produced programs and segments, live in-studio performances, and digital content

  • Participates in industry efforts to create new models and/or resources for classical music service in public media

  • Serves as the primary contact and relationship manager with WRTI’s classical music constituents

  • Identifies and leads opportunities to pursue WRTI’s public service mission in the public, private, and philanthropic sector

  • Implement industry-recognized classical music programming best practices including leveraging data to achieve greater audience service, strategic scheduling of fill-in hosts, and programming all weekday classical music, consistently producing daypart appropriate, listener-focused playlists.

  • Helps to plan, and participates in, on-air fundraising as assigned. Strategically programs appropriate fund drive classical music to help ensure successful fundraising results. 

  • Regularly reviews new releases to incorporate into library and daily programming

  • Manages music scheduling database to catalog new and existing library assets 

  • Identifies classical music special programming opportunities and works with staff to develop and deliver content for multi-platform promotion and delivery.

  • Generates new classical music initiatives to improve listener service, generate revenue, and build audience.

  • Responsible for communicating key classical music projects and information to department and station staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, communications, or directly related field; at least five (5) years of experience in public media classical music programming. Demonstrated music selection and classical music announcing experience. Demonstrated multi-platform music curation and audience building experience. Supervisory experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled at classical music listener-focused public media best practices

  • Demonstrated skill with digital broadcast production equipment and techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of public media on-air and programming best practices.

  • Demonstrated experience in successful public media on-air fundraising.

  • Experience creating and managing multi-platform content partnerships

  • Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to miultitask and work on diverse projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various personalities.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of Music Master, WideOrbit automation, Microsoft Office, G Suite, and Windows.

  • Ability to work some weekend, evening and overnight travel (as needed).
