The Music School of Delaware - Serafin Summer Music

These three sibling pairs musically 'duke it out' during Week 1 of Serafin Summer Music

The Music School of Delaware - Serafin Summer Music

Serafin Summer Music returns June 4-19, bringing 22 acclaimed performing artists to Delaware from around the nation and the globe. The three-week schedule offers seven concerts open to the public, live and livestreamed from the Concert Hall at The Music School of Delaware in Wilmington. In addition, three "patrons-only" chats will be presented via zoom for ticket holders.

Each concert has a unique and inviting theme. The artists roster includes distinguished artists from Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Oregon, Florida, Atlanta, and even Norway. Eclectic and varied programs include chamber works for strings, winds, piano, and voice.

The season opens with an all-Gershwin program ending with Rhapsody in Blue for solo piano. June 5 brings a whimsical performance, Sibling Rivalry! featuring three violin/piano sibling pairs sharing a musical frolic. Songs of Norway on June 6 puts the works of Edvard Grieg center stage, along with other Norwegian composers.

Serafin Summer Music programming provides listeners with tried-and-true favorites like the piano quintets of Dvorak and Schumann, as well as infrequently heard masterworks like Beethoven's trio for two oboes and English Horn, Brahms' songs for alto, viola, and piano, Clara Schumann's Romance for oboe and piano, and “hidden gems” such as the splendid String Sextet by Danish Romantic nationalist composer, Niels Gade.

“Remarkable personalities and talent shine throughout this entire festival…there’s plenty of charisma in this lineup!” notes Kate M. Ransom, Serafin Summer Music’s Artistic Director. “We are all looking forward to reconnecting with audiences and collaborating with one another again.”

The festival is hosted by the Music School of Delaware, its home. The Music School's Board Chair, John du Pont says, "Serafin Summer Music is new on the music scene in our region. The attraction for audiences to this world class level of artistry, along with warm and friendly interactions with the community by these personable artists is sure to be part of establishing Delaware as and arts and culture destination. That is our intention.”

Serafin Summer Music performances are presented at the Concert Hall of The Music School of Delaware in Wilmington. Tickets for the live and livestreamed concerts are on sale now at musicschoolofdelaware.org.
