The Philadelphia Orchestra - Rittenhouse Square Volunteer Committee Virtual Lecture Luncheon Series
The Rittenhouse Square Committee for The Philadelphia Orchestra invites you to the final session of the Virtual Lecture Luncheon series coordinated with The Philadelphia Orchestra's Digital Stage concerts.
On June 10, guest lecturer Davyd Booth (Second Violin, The Philadelphia Orchestra) and celebrity guest Erica Peel (Piccolo, Flute, The Philadelphia Orchestra) will speak about "Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2."
The concert, which premieres on the Digital Stage the same night, will feature three captivating pieces that celebrate the magic of late spring giving way to summer. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestra begin the evening with Mozart’s bewitching Overture to “The Magic Flute” and Mason Bates’s “Undistant.”
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 captures the power of art to lift the human spirit. As the composer struggled with the loss of his hearing, his dedication to art fueled his drive to continue making music. The Symphony No. 2 looks back to Haydn and Mozart, but Beethoven infused it with dashes of rowdy humor and a Romantic sensibility—particularly the poetic slow movement—that are among his hallmarks.
Please join us for a fascinating conversation that will include insights about the concert, musical excerpts, Q&A, and much more!
$20 for complete series, all proceeds benefit The Philadelphia Orchestra.
