Jazz Pianist Taylor Eigsti Dazzles at Tanglewood

Piano prodigy Taylor Eigsti joins Marian McPartland for a special live taping of Piano Jazz. Eigsti performs before a full house at Seiji Ozawa Hall at the 2004 Tanglewood Jazz Festival in Lenox, Mass.

Eigsti began playing the piano at age 4. His inspiration emerged from the premature death of his sister Shannon, a jazz/rock pianist who succumbed to cancer when Eigsti was only 3. By age 8, Eigsti's talent was so obvious he was invited to be the opening act for David Benoit.

Ever since, Eigsti has been impressing audiences and critics alike with the technical proficiency of the prodigy he is, and an intuitive understanding of the keyboard and jazz that is usually only found in much older players.

Such talent has allowed Eigsti's to share the stage with the likes of Dave Brubeck, James Moody, Bobby Hutcherson, Kevin Mahogany, Bill Watrous, Frederica von Stade, Diane Schuur, Alan Broadbent, Ira Sullivan, Rufus Reid and Shelly Berg, among others. He currently performs with his trio as well as with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.

NPR Jazzfest presents a set of Eigsti's energetic and virtuosic playing.
