Join Jill Pasternak when she interviews Serbian guitarist and composer Maya Le Roux Obradovic. Her latest CD - Symphonic and Guitar - is filled with her own compositions, many inspired by the colorful folklore of the Balkans that were the setting of her early childhood. She moved to Geneva, Switzerland at age five, and eventually studied music at Conservatoire superieur de Geneve and then in Paris. Geneva is Maya's home, but her Serbian roots infuse her music; Symphonic and Guitar is a collaboration with Radio Belgrade Orchestra and Sinfonietta Beograd String Orchestra.
Maya has performed as a soloist with orchestras including the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, the Belgrade Symphonietta Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of Galicia, and Euro Mediterranne Orchestra at Paris' Opera Comique. Her original works have also been included in several film scores and she has 10 albums to her credit.
When asked about the future of classical music, Maya responds, "Today, the fusion, cross-fertilization, and blending of civilizations are all reflected in musical expression. I predict a de-compartmentalization of classical music due to the different ethnic tendencies from which it draws inspiration..."
