The four winners of the Tri-County Concerts Youth Festival Piano Competition visit the WRTI Performance Studio on Wednesday, August 14th at 12:10 pm to play works by Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, and Liebermann. WRTI's Kevin Gordon is host.
At WRTI, these young pianists play their competition pieces.
Program:
Felix Mendelssohn, Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3, played by 12-year-old Andrew Yu, 2nd place in the Junior Division.
Frédéric Chopin, Ballade No. 3 in A flat Major, Op. 47, played by 14-year-old Nathan Jiang, 2nd place in the Senior Division.
Franz Liszt, Sonetto 104 del Petrarca, played by 12-year-old Emily Wu, winner in the Junior Division.
Lowell Liebermann's Gargoyles, Op. 29, played by 17-year-old Chris Jung, winner in the Senior Division.
The Tri-County Concerts Association has served the Greater Philadelphia Area for 78 years. Its' 77th Annual Youth Festival Concert was held in June at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell.
Tri-County's Annual Youth Festival was established in 1943 for aspiring young musicians living in Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Auditions are open to high-school and middle-school students in a wide variety of instruments, including piano, strings, winds, voice, and ensembles, as well as harp, classical guitar, and percussion.
The festival offers talented students an opportunity to audition before and receive critiques from professional judges.
Those students deemed outstanding by the judges are given monetary awards; their photos and accomplishments are featured on the Tri-County web site; and they perform at the annual winners' recital.
