Due to a power outage caused by high winds, WRTQ 91.3 FM (Ocean City, NJ) is experiencing a service disruption. The local electric utility company is working to restore service in the affected area.

Dave Conant Signing Off As WRTI's Morning Classical Host

Big news here at WRTI! Our longtime and much-loved morning host Dave Conant, whose voice has been synonymous with classical music in the morning for over four decades in Philadelphia, the tri-state area, and beyond, is signing off the airwaves. Dave will now devote himself full time to his duties as general manager of the station.

"I've been fortunate to work as a classical host for 26 years with WFLN, and for nearly 15 years on WRTI," says Dave. "It's now necessary for me to focus full time on guiding the station into a vibrant and exciting future."

While the decision to step down as the WRTI Morning Show host was not easy, Dave feels it’s the best decision for the station. “With this change," he explains, "my full attention will be centered on increasing the quality of WRTI’s product, leading the exponential challenges that digital platforms have introduced into our business, stepping into the much-needed role of fundraiser-in-chief, and cementing WRTI's role as one of the most important, interconnected cultural institutions in our community."

Dave will fill in for air shifts on a substitute basis, on occasion, and assume some on-air duties during WRTI Member Drives. While the station conducts a national search for the Morning Show replacement host, WRTI listeners will enjoy the voice and commentary of Gregg Whiteside from 6 to 10 am on weekdays.

UPDATE: May 10, 2012
Thank you, everyone, for your comments about Dave's great career and Gregg's excellent skills. Just to be clear, WRTI is conducting a search for two reasons. First and foremost, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) rules require it.  As a broadcaster, we are required to make full-time job openings available to the public.  And that availability has to be a good faith effort to reach likely qualified candidates. Second, we truly are interested in finding the best replacement for Dave. We certainly think Gregg is one of the best or he wouldn't be on the air now.

We look forward to completing this process as quickly as possible, and getting on with the business of building the best classical music and jazz service in the country!  Thanks again for all of your comments.
