And The Winner Is...

Congratulations to Dori Spector! She's the winner of WRTI's 60th Anniversary Commemorative Artwork Competition. Dori lives in Newtown Square, PA and is a sustaining member of WRTI. She submitted an etching that, our judges felt, was a beautiful expression of WRTI's diverse cultural community and its ongoing connection to Philadelphia's tri-state region.

“All of the submissions received were truly outstanding,” says WRTI General Manager Dave Conant. "We're thankful to everyone who participated in the competition."

Dori specifically chose to create an etching for her submission because she saw parallels between the technique and the music on WRTI. "Artists have been creating etchings for centuries," she explains. "It's a method of producing art that has stood the test of time, and is still fresh and alive." She feels that classical music and jazz have also endured, and are also art forms that are as vibrant today as they were decades, and even centuries, ago.

“My thought with the design," Dori explains, " is that the music reflects many textures and patterns - bold, soft, whimsical, abstract, and geometrical. The sun in the upper-right hand corner, and the stars down below, along with the warm to cool color palette says that the music is there for us all day - from morning through night.”

A busy working artist, Dori says that much of her work has been created while listening to WRTI. “It's always on in the studio - the music is inspirational.”

Look for Dori's winning design next year, beginning in January, during our 60th-year anniversary celebration. You'll see it online, emblazoned on mugs and T-shirts, and more...
