Trombonist, Composer, & Arranger Papo Vazquez Visits The Bridge: Oct 19th at 10 pm

Charismatic trombonist and Philly homeboy Papo Vazquezcommandeers The Bridge to discuss Oasis, the latest release by his Mighty Pirates Troubadours ensemble.  Papo Vazquez is more than 35 years into a career spanning the jazz, Latin, Afro-Caribbean and classical music recording worlds.

In 2012, he's focusing all energies on his new recording Oasis with his Mighty Pirates Troubadours, the core band, which is a seven piece Afro Puerto-Rican jazz group and invited guests. During 2011, he was presented by Pregones Theater with an NEA Latino Masters Award under the National Endowment for the Arts' American Masterpieces.

Papo was commissioned on behalf of Wynton Marsalis for a new work, inspired by Cuban painter Wilfredo Lam in 2010, which was then performed as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jazz and Art concert series. Papo won a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album for Papo Vazquez Mighty Pirates in 2008 for his recording Marooned/Aislado, on his own independent label, Picaro Records.

Tune in for what's sure to be another memorable visit from Papo Vazquez. Friday, October 19th, 10 pm.
