Celebrate The Festival of Lights: Dec. 10th, 7 to 11 pm on HD-2

WRTI brings you four hours of beautiful music for Hanukkah this Monday night. At 7 pm, it's Hanukkah In Story & Song, sung by The Western Wind Vocal Ensemble, and narrated by Leonard Nimoy. You'll hear 25 eclectic selections from the Ladino songs of the Spanish Jews and Yiddish melodies of Eastern Europe, to modern Israeli tunes and more. The ensemble performs a cappella as well as with instrumental accompaniment. The narration, written by Rabbi Gerald Skolnik, sheds new light on the holiday's customs and rituals.

At 8 pm, it's a complete performance of George Friedrich Handel’s massive oratorio, Judas Maccabeus -  the story of the Jewish warrior who lead the revolt to liberate and rededicate the temple, instituting the Hanukkah celebration.  The performance stars Felicity Palmer, Janet Baker, Ryland Davies, John Shirley-Quirk and the Wadsworth School Choir. The English Chamber Orchestra is led by Sir Charles Mackerras.

Listen on WRTI's classical stream or HD-2 on Monday, December 10, 7 to 9 pm.
