Jazz Special on WRTI With a Philadelphia Museum of Art Connection!

In honor of Black History Month, WRTI presents a JazzSet from NPR Special: a live, recorded performance of jazz pianist Jason Moran's 'Live: Time On The Quilts Of Gee's Bend' Suite, that was commissioned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Art After 5 program, and had its world premiere there in 2008. The work is influenced by the quilts and quilters of Gee's Bend, Alabama.

Moran, one of the most adventurous artists working in jazz today, and his group The Bandwagon, performed with Grammy-award winner Bill Frisell, the widely acclaimed guitarist whose distinctive style is rooted in jazz, and the talented mezzo-soprano and jazz vocalist Alicia Hall Moran.

Tune in on Sunday, February 24th, 9 to 10 am to hear a live, recorded concert broadcast of the piece. This time, it's from The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. You can listen on the radio at 90.1 FM, or online at wrti.org.
