Listen on Sunday, April 14th, 4 to 6 pm, as The Crossing chamber choir sings the broadcast premiere of Thomas Lloyd's concert-length work, Bonhoeffer. The concert was recorded at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral this past March.
Recognized by many for his work as conductor and artistic director of the Bucks County Choral Society, Lloyd is less known for his formidable composing gifts. In Bonhoeffer, Lloyd has constructed a moving, provocative portrayal of the great theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, which alternates between a libretto and scenes from his dramatic life. The pastor's incredible story includes his returning to Germany from the U.S. to resist the Lutheran Church’s capitulation to Germany’s fascist government, falling in love, and plotting to assassinate Adolf Hitler. He was ultimately arrested and executed in the weeks before the war’s end.
