At 11 pm, The Bridge features a special program documenting The Bad Plus, a jazz trio with a reputation for stretching the boundaries of conventional jazz. In 2010 the dynamic trio tackled the amazing feat of creating their own unique arrangement of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. The arrangement was commissioned by Duke Performances at Duke University and Lincoln Center Out of Doors and has been met with universal acclaim around the world including Ireland, Canada, Norway, Israel, and the United States. In 2013 the arrangement was released on CD.
Listen to learn more about how the group met this challenging task and their thoughts on improvisation, performance, and continually pushing the outer limits of what defines the jazz trio.
The Bad Plus is bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson, and drummer David King, and is based in New York City.
