A Highly Anticipated National Jazz Series Launches on WRTI

Here at WRTI we're very excited about the premiere of a special jazz series - created by the leading producers of jazz content in America. We want you to be part of it.

Jazz changes with the times. It always has, it always will. Today is no exception. Today demands that we have a syndicated jazz program that reflects our times. It has to showcase the artists who are on the scene today, at the height of their creative powers, and it has to offer listeners a way to discover and connect with the world of jazz using the technology that's available to them, and that they use every day. This is it.

Bassist extraordinaire Christian McBride is your host for Jazz Night In America.

The third episode, October 26th, 8 to 9 pm - "Reimagining Brubeck"

Dave Brubeck’s music is reimagined by members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Jazz Night in America explores various Brubeck compositions, as we sit down and discuss with the arrangers the decisions they made when approaching the material. Also, we unearth recordings from the JALC archive of Brubeck himself performing with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Jazz Night In America, a one-hour weekly program presenting some of the nation's finest jazz artists in concert performances with storytelling, will connect jazz enthusiasts and potential new fans with artists, venues, and each other. Sunday nights, 8 to 9 pm on WRTI 90.1 FM.

Christian McBride, the extraordinary bassist and bandleader, is the host of the show. Christian visited WRTI on October 2nd and shared some wonderful stories about his life as a jazz artist. Check them out here.

"We hope to reach the people who live for this music; we hope to make it easy for the curious to get hooked." --The producers of Jazz Night In America

What's unique about Jazz Night In America? It's the first nationally syndicated jazz program that is multi-platform in its design. Each the week you'll experience a great radio show on the air, and online at  our website.  You can also experience scheduled videocasts of the shows that include online chats, encouraging listeners to connect with each other across the street, across town, and across the country.

How to Experience Jazz Night In America:

On The Radio: Every week, starting on Sunday, October 12 at 8 pm, we'll broadcast the one-hour program centered on great concerts and the stories behind them.

On Wednesday Nights: Every Wednesday at 9 pm, we'll videocast a streaming video presentation of a concert. It will often be the same show that you hear on-air — except you can hear AND see the full performance. We'll run a live chat, which all are welcome to join. The videocasts are ONLY available on Wednesdays at 9 pm. So don't miss it!

On Demand: Did you miss the radio broadcast? No problem. The audio will be available on demand on our website. Additional content, including highlights from webcasts, documentary features, and other content will be at npr.org/jazznight.

Jazz Night In America replaces the well-known nationally syndicated programs JazzSet and Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio. Producers from both programs have joined together as partners to reach as many people in and around the jazz community as possible.
