A WRTI Exclusive Recording and Special Jazz Night in Memory of MLK, Jr., Jan. 18th at 9 PM

Bobby Watson

Join WRTI's J. Michael Harrison on Monday. January 18th starting at 9 pm, as he celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by highlighting alto saxophonist/composer/educator Bobby Watson and his “I Have A Dream” project.

Spoken word and instrumental pieces from the group’s 2013 album, Check Cashing Day, recorded to commemorate the 50th anniversary of King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, will be featured throughout the program.  There will also be some classic tunes that exhibit the power that jazz added to the Freedom Movement.

At 10:15 pm, J. Michael will present a live version of the title track from Check Cashing Day, recorded right here in WRTI’s performance studio in 2015... just for our listeners!

This WRTI exclusive recording features poet and spoken-word artist Glenn North, a wonderful addition to the project, reciting an original work along with Watson’s music.
