Listen: Project Fusion Saxophone Quartet LIVE from the WRTI 90.1 Performance Studio

Ryan Brandenberg
Project Fusion is on the roster of Astral, an intensive mentoring program that develops the early careers of extraordinary classical musicians.

Listen to Project Fusion, a dynamic young saxophone quartet, when they chatted with Classical Coffeehouse Host Debra Lew Harder and performed LIVE on WRTI. A winner of Astral's 2015 National Auditions, Project Fusion has captured top prizes in prestigious chamber music competitions; the ensemble's concerts have been described as “joyful celebrations.”

While the sound of the string quartet has delighted audiences for centuries, the saxophone quartet—consisting of soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones—brings a new experience to our ears that's harmonious and rich.

The saxophonists of Project Fusion are all classically trained musicians, and met as students at the Eastman School of Music. They’ll share their story and play the Romanian Dances of Bartok, music of J.S. Bach, as well as tangos and works from the contemporary repertoire.

It all adds up to a lively half-hour of fresh music and conversation!

Project Fusion includes: Dannel Espinoza, soprano sax; Matt Amedio, alto sax; Michael Sawzin, tenor sax; and Matthew Evans, baritone sax. The quartet is on the roster of Astral.

This broadcast was recorded on Friday, December 8 2017.

Debra's last day on the air at WRTI was September 21st, 2021. She's now the radio host for The Metropolitan Opera. Read more here.
