Speaker Charlotte Blake Alston repeats her stirring rendition of excerpts from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech over Barber’s haunting Adagio for Strings, and two splendid choirs will join the Philadelphia Orchestra , the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts Chorus and the Immaculata University Choir.
TIn this 90-minute program will feature inspiring works including Duke Ellington's "King of the Magi," John Rosamund Johnson's "Lift Every Voice and Sing," and a work by the Philadelphia Orchestra's Music Alive Composer in Residence, Hannibal Lokumbe, "Hymn for the World."
This is the Philadelphia Orchestra's fifth consecutive year of performing at Girard College, the home of Global Citizen’s Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service.
