We're Celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month on WRTI 90.1
April is Jazz Appreciation Month, so WRTI is doing what we do best—spreading the love for this great art form! The Smithsonian Institution launched Jazz Appreciation Month in 2002 to herald and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz.
The City of Philadelphia, which holds a large piece of jazz history for the nation, has their own celebration as well, and we are a part of it. Check out Philly Celebrates Jazz.
To ensure a diverse commemoration of all types of jazz, we’ve asked musicians and arts advocates a burning question – “If you could be listening to any jazz tune right now, what would it be?” During each jazz shift, we will play you their answers and back it up with their selections.
Our jazz hosts got in on the fun as well! See and listen to their favorites here.
We hope you’ve been enjoying reading and listening to our Jazz Album of the Week. For Jazz Appreciation Month, we’ll also be featuring a Classic Album of the Week to revisit the music that we all know and love, but is really the building blocks of much of the modern jazz that was created after its release.
We want to hear what’s stuck in your head as well! Each week, make sure you put in your two cents for Jazz At Your Request. Tell us why you love your choice in the comments, and listen for your favorite every Wednesday at 9 pm with WRTI's Courtney Blue.
