The Philadelphia Orchestra In Concert on WRTI: Ravel and Prokofiev, June 10 at 1 PM

Violinist Vadim Repin

Violinist Vadim Repin stepped in for Hilary Hahn this past April when she announced she was expecting her second child very soon, and then withdrew from this performance of Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 with The Philadelphians conducted by Prinicpal Guest Conductor, Stéphane Denève.

Also on the program: a Philadelphia premiere from Guillaume Connesson, his Flammenschrift (Flaming Letters), a tribute to German music.

Equally worthy of tribute: Richard Strauss's spiritual Death and Transfiguration and Ravel's whirling La Valse, described by the composer as “dancing on the edge of a volcano.”

Listen on Sunday, June 10, 1 to 3 PM on WRTI 90.1 with host Gregg Whiteside.

PROGRAM:

Connesson: Flammenschrift

Prokofiev: Violin Concerto No. 1

Strauss: Death and Transfiguration
