Listen to this sneak preview of the WRTI 90.1/Astral Artists block party with dynamic young musicians Christine Lamprea, cello, and Xavier Foley, double-bass playing live in the WRTI Performance Studio hosted by Debra Lew Harder.

WRTI's General Manager Bill Johnson and Astral's Executive Director Julia Rubio chat about the upcoming weekend's fun event, and WRTI's partnership with Astral Artists.

Watch and listen to the performance on WRTI's Facebook page.

"Supreme panache" (The Boston Music Intelligencer) describes the fiery musicality of Colombian-American cellist Christine Lamprea. In addition to winning many noteworthy national prizes, Christine was awarded this year's Sphinx Medal of Excellence. She appears as recitalist at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and has performed with major orchestras in the U.S. and abroad.

The Philadelphia Inquirer recently described double-bassist and composer Xavier Foley as a "standout player...and also a right spark of a composer." The winner of numerous prestigious awards, Xavier has appeared with the Atlanta and Nashville Symphonies and with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Sphinx Virtuosi. In his creative work, he composes in a probing style that blends genres of music from around the globe.

Join us Friday, September 14 at 12:10 for superb music-making by these two stellar Astral Artists, and catch the wave of excitement leading up to WRTI's and Astral Artists' first-ever community block party.
