We have great news. The 33rd Annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival is on—but this year, it’s on your computer or device. The largest free jazz festival on the East Coast will not be performing live in Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington, DE. Instead, a cream-of–the-crop lineup will be playing in a recording studio, and streamed to you here, via the WRTI website.
Things kick off with a pre-festival event on Wednesday, June 24th at 7 PM with the Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency Program, and some past graduates.
The program, highlighted by J. Michael Harrison for NPR Live Sessions, is named after the great Robert “Boysie” Lowery, who was once a teacher of Clifford Brown. Every year, this program poises the next generation of jazz composers to take the world by storm.
The actual festival will run from Thursday, June 25th through Saturday, June 27th. The schedule is below. Some of the artists have performed at WRTI, so click on the links to catch a sneak peak. And be sure to visit wrti.org to be part of the 33rd year of the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival!
