Join us on Thursday, October 31 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. when WRTI presents a frightening array of classical music inspired by witches, goblins, and ghosts!
In the morning hours, brace yourself as John T.K. Scherch brings you a super-scary Sousalarm, and then on Breakfast with Bach it’s the famously eery Toccata and Fugue in D minor that Leopold Stokowski made famous in those opening scenes of Fantasia. Just when you thought you were safe, Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King will leave you shaking in your boots with its booming finale!
Next, the devil pays a visit when Melinda Whiting brings you Tartini’s violin sonata, knick-named the “Devil’s Trill.” Midday Mozart takes an ominous turn with highlights from the composer’s revered Requiem mass, and then the Dream of the Witches' Sabbath from Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, plus ghoulish sounds from Dvorák, and spine-chilling songs by Schubert.
You’ll be greeted by the overture from Marschner’s opera, The Vampyr as Meg Bragle takes the mic, followed by a ghastly and ghostly appearance by Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 5 in D major, and Saint-Saens' Danse macabre. Then the witches arrive with Verdi’s dark and foreboding “Witches Chorus” from Macbeth, followed by a creature double-feature for Flix at Five from Tim Burton's Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas: This is Halloween with music by Danny Elfman.
Happy Halloween from all of your friends at WRTI! You can keep the music playing for our entire community, on every holiday, by becoming a member here. Thanks!
