Tune in on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. for the Metropolitan Opera’s broadcast of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, as conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the Met Orchestra and Chorus in his first Mozart production with the company. WRTI will carry the broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera House, as part of the Met’s Saturday matinee series.

Don Giovanni’s libretto, by Lorenzo Da Ponte, is based on a libretto written for Giuseppe Gazzaniga’s opera Don Giovanni Tenorio, and capitalized on the popularity of “Don Juan” operas in Prague. Set in Spain, it follows Don Giovanni, a deceptive libertine who has seduced 2,065 women in various countries, as his many enemies and previous lovers attempt to seek vengeance for his wanton licentiousness.

This Met Opera production will feature Grammy award-winning baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the titular Don Giovanni, the renowned Mozart interpreter Federica Lombardi as Donna Anna, and Ben Bliss as Anna’s fiancé, Don Ottavio. Adam Plachetka will perform as Don Giovanni’s conflicted servant, Leporello.
