Tune in on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. for the Metropolitan Opera’s broadcast of Vincenzo Bellini’s bel canto opera, La Sonnambula. This broadcast is a highlight of a production from last fall, conducted by Riccardo Frizza. WRTI will carry the broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera House, as part of the Met’s Saturday matinee series.

La Sonnambula features a libretto written by Felice Romani, based on a ballet-pantomime written by Eugène Scribe. It recounts a tale of a somnambulist, Amina, whose sleepwalking puts her in a compromising situation with Rodolfo, the long-lost son of the village’s count. The rival Lisa antagonizes the situation, encouraging Amina’s betrothed, Elvino, to doubt Amina’s honor.

This production featured soprano Nadine Sierra as the village girl, Amina, and tenor Xabier Anduaga as her betrothed. Bass Alexander Vingradov is Rodolfo, the count’s son, and soprano Sydney Mancasola is Lisa, Amina’s rival.
